If you cannot take a chance on an accidental Roo, if you want Prolific numbers of JUMBO eggs from gorgeous girls, the 55 Florwery Hen is for you!  A VERY RARE autosexing breed where males and females are obvious at hatch based on color. These rare girls produce huge numbers of JUMBO white eggs- and lay during winter.  (White egg above in comparison to a regular XL egg from a German Bielefelder!) . 55 Flowery Hens were created in Sweden by Martin Silverudd in 1955 (hence the name). Fifty Fives are a gorgeous autosexing breed that produce a HUGE amount of JUMBO eggs. The hens are truly prolific layers, and the eggs are the roundest and largest of many breeds. As adults the females are decorated with a beautiful spotted pattern; the ‘flowers’ that contribute to the breed name. The hens will normally weigh about 4 - 5 lbs when mature, and don't normally become broody. This breed tends to be very active and will happily spend most of their day foraging.  They are one of the most productive laying hens you will ever come across, laying 250 days a year (all hens stop for autumn molt). Their feed to egg production ratio is far superior to any other breed. While the hens are medium sized, the eggs are not only large, but they consistently have some of the thickest and highest quality shells in our flock.
