The Whiting True Blue is hardy, cold and heat tolerant (as long as you provide them plenty of water and shade in summer and appropriate shelter from the winter elements), they will handle anything your climate throws at them. These hens are PROLIFIC layers, laying a WHOPPING 280-300 Large eggs per year! The eggs are powder blue in color, lighter color than Ameraucana eggs but with a definite blue tint. These birds come into lay early reaching maturity around 20 weeks. The Whiting True Blues are friendly and curious, but may not be lap chickens. Their easygoing temperament means they get along with other chicken breeds. They love attention but don't love to be touched, but they will usually follow you around, even if it's just to investigate what you're up to. These birds are very active and enjoy foraging. They come in many colors, adding a ton of interest to your flock and your basket. Whiting True Blue chickens have pea combs, and are medium-sized, with hens weighing around 5 lbs at maturity. Their egg-laying starts off slow with medium-sized eggs and ramps up over the next month or so as eggs get larger. Lifespan 6-10 yrs.
