The Whiting True Blue hens are known for being PROLIFIC layers of light blue eggs, a WHOPPING 280-300 Large eggs/yr!  (thats ALOT).  This breed is very hardy, cold and heat tolerant (as long as you provide water/shade in summer and shelter from the winter elements), they will handle anything your climate throws at them. The eggs are powder blue in color, lighter color than Ameraucana eggs but with a definite blue tint. This breed comes into lay early, maturing around 20 wks. They come in many different colors, so a whole flock of WTBs is eye-catching. The Whiting True Blues are friendly and curious, but are NOT going to be lap chickens. That said, they are easygoing with other chickens, so they can go in a flock with more docile breeds.  They love attention but don't love to be touched, they will usually follow you around, just to investigate what you're up to. Whiting TBs are very active and enjoy foraging, they love periods of free-range.  Whiting True Blues have pea combs, and are medium-sized, with hens weighing around 5 lbs at maturity. Their egg-laying starts off slow with medium-sized eggs but quickly ramps up over the next month or so as eggs get large. Lifespan 6-10 yrs, and THIS BREED LAYS INTO OLD AGE(yipee!), but of course with a decrease in production beginning about 5 years old). This breed is NOT known to go broody, and does lay in winter (at a reduced rate)
